Understanding Masik Shivratri 2025

Masik Shivratri is observed every month on the 14th night of Krishna Paksha (waning moon) and is considered highly auspicious for devotees of Lord Shiva. In 2025, the festival falls on September 17th. Both married and unmarried women, as well as men, observe fasting and perform special pujas to seek blessings for health, prosperity, and marital happiness.

Puja Muhurat and Timings

The ideal puja muhurat for Masik Shivratri begins in the night hours, around 10:00 PM and continues until early morning. Devotees perform abhishekam (ritual bathing) of the Shiva Lingam with water, milk, honey, and bel leaves, followed by chanting of the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra. Fasting Rituals and Guidelines

On this day, devotees maintain a strict fast, often consuming only fruits and milk. Some observe a Nirjala fast (without water), while others break the fast after performing the puja. It is considered highly meritorious to stay awake throughout the night, reciting Shiva Stotras and mantras.

Ways to Please Lord Shiva

Besides fasting and abhishekam, offering bel leaves, water, milk, honey, and chanting prayers sincerely is said to invoke Lord Shiva's blessings. Lighting a diya near the Shiva Lingam and donating to the needy are additional acts that please the deity.
