Ulta Beauty to End Shop-in-Shop Partnership with Target by 2026

A Five-Year Retail Partnership Nears Its End

Target and Ulta Beauty have announced that their shop-in-shop partnership will come to an end in August 2026. This collaboration, launched in 2021, brought Ulta’s beauty products into hundreds of Target locations, blending convenience shopping with access to prestige cosmetics. After five years, both companies confirmed they will not be renewing the agreement.

Why the Partnership Mattered

The Target–Ulta Beauty model became a popular shopping format, giving customers the chance to pick up groceries, clothing, and beauty products all in one trip. By 2023, Ulta mini-shops had expanded into more than 500 Target stores nationwide. This format was considered a strong example of retail synergy, where two brands work together to attract overlapping customers.

Strategic Moves Ahead

Both retailers stated that the decision was mutual and part of long-term business strategies. Ulta Beauty plans to focus more on strengthening its own standalone stores and digital presence, while Target is expected to continue exploring new in-store collaborations and categories to enhance customer experiences.

Impact on Customers

For beauty enthusiasts, the partnership meant easier access to prestige brands like MAC, Tarte, and Clinique while enjoying Target’s one-stop-shop convenience. Although the in-store Ulta locations will close after 2026, both companies reassured shoppers that exclusive promotions and loyalty benefits will continue until the partnership officially ends.

Trivia Cue

Did you know? Target first experimented with shop-in-shop models in the early 2000s, introducing Starbucks cafés in many of its stores—long before beauty brands joined the retail floor!

Fun Fact

Ulta Beauty operates more than 1,300 stores across the U.S., making it one of the largest beauty retailers in the country. Interestingly, over 95% of Ulta’s sales come from physical stores, even in the age of booming online shopping!
