PM Modi to Unveil UER-II and Dwarka Expressway This Sunday

Major Boost to Delhi's Traffic Decongestion Plans

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate two major infrastructure projects this Sunday — the 76-kilometre Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and the 29-kilometre Dwarka Expressway. Both are part of Delhi's strategic plan to reduce traffic congestion on the Ring Road and other key arterial routes.

UER-II: Delhi's New Traffic Lifeline

UER-II will serve as a crucial bypass for vehicles traveling from Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh towards the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, Gurgaon, and Jaipur — without entering the already choked central areas of Delhi. It is an access-controlled expressway, designed for smooth and high-speed travel, minimizing travel time and reducing vehicular emissions.

Dwarka Expressway: Enhancing Connectivity

The Dwarka Expressway, spanning 29 km, will link Dwarka in Delhi to Gurugram in Haryana. It will directly connect to the IGI Airport and is expected to significantly cut travel time between the two regions. This route also reduces dependency on the NH-48 (Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway), easing pressure on one of India's busiest highways.

Part of a Bigger Vision

Both projects are aligned with the National Capital Region Transport Plan and are part of the government's vision to enhance infrastructure, connectivity, and urban mobility. Trivia Cue: Once operational, UER-II will become Delhi's longest urban expressway!

Environmental and Economic Impact

By diverting heavy and long-distance traffic away from the city's core, these projects are expected to improve air quality and reduce noise pollution. Additionally, faster logistics movement could lead to an economic boost for surrounding industrial hubs.

Fun Fact

Did you know? The Dwarka Expressway is India's first elevated urban expressway, with several kilometres built entirely on pillars to save land and avoid disrupting existing roads.
