PM Anwar Clarifies MCMC Probe Is Not Targeting Muhyiddin
Anwar Ibrahim Addresses MCMC Investigation Misunderstanding
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim clarified that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) was not instructed to investigate Pagoh MP Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin regarding the RON95 targeted fuel subsidy issue. The directive was instead focused on verifying the credibility of sources cited during parliamentary debates.
Clarification During Dewan Rakyat Session
During Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat, Anwar responded to a supplementary question by Datuk Rosol Wahid (PN-Hulu Terengganu) about whether he would apologise to Muhyiddin. He emphasised that some had misunderstood the purpose of the MCMC engagement, suggesting it was an investigation into Muhyiddin, which was incorrect.
Purpose of MCMC Verification
Anwar explained that MCMC’s role was to assess the reliability of sources used in parliamentary discussions. He noted, “If the sources are found to be unreliable, then the statements based on them are not valid. But we need to wait for MCMC’s findings first.” This move aims to ensure factual accuracy in parliamentary discourse without targeting individuals.
