This Children’s Day, we spotlight a group of remarkable students from Sparkling Mindz Global School in Bengaluru, who are redefining civic engagement through their innovative projects. These young changemakers have taken the initiative to understand their city’s heritage while addressing pressing social issues, proving that age is no barrier to making a difference.

Heritage Walks: A Journey of Discovery

At the heart of their efforts lies the 'Heritage Walks' project. This initiative allows students to explore Bengaluru's rich history, culture, and community stories. Through these structured walks, the children have developed a deeper connection to their city, fostering a sense of belonging and responsibility. Turning Observations into Action

During their walks, the students noticed various societal challenges, leading them to take meaningful action. Their projects include:

• Waste Segregation Awareness: Every Saturday, students engage the community at Jakkur–Sampigehalli Lake, promoting the importance of waste segregation.
• Water Crisis Performances: They creatively spread awareness of Bengaluru's water issues through performances across four major metro stations: Kengeri Bus Terminal, Majestic, Baiyappanahalli, and Dasarahalli.
• Lake Rejuvenation Petition: The students rallied support for a petition aimed at rejuvenating the city's lakes, emphasizing the importance of water conservation.
• Language Exchange Program: Collaborating with Kannuru Government School, they introduced foundational English literacy using game-based learning methods.
• Community Clean-Up Drives: Organizing local clean-ups to combat waste dumping, the students are actively fostering environmental stewardship within their community.

Learning and Growth Through Civic Engagement

These initiatives have empowered students to convert their observations into impactful projects, highlighting the potential of youth in community transformation. By encouraging children to understand the world around them, they cultivate a proactive mindset that sees problems as opportunities for change.
